Sale Sharks have confirmed that South African international Jean-Luc du Preez will be leaving the club at the conclusion of the current season, ending a six-year chapter with the Premiership side that saw him grow into one of their most dependable forwards.

The 28-year-old, who initially joined the club on loan before securing a permanent deal in 2019, has made close to 150 appearances across all competitions.

Known for his versatility in the pack, he has featured as both a lock and a back-row forward, providing the team with vital adaptability and physicality. His time at Sale often saw him play alongside his twin brother Dan and elder brother Rob, creating a rare sibling trio in professional rugby.

In the ongoing season, du Preez has made 20 appearances, including 12 in the Gallagher Premiership, and scored one try.

“Sale is a special place. A place where I am excited to go in and see the boys every day. A place that has given me and my family so much and most importantly, a place I now call home.

It’s been one hell of a ride. I will genuinely miss the club and the people that have helped me grow on and off the field, I am grateful to everyone.”

Having earned 14 caps for the Springboks since his debut in 2016, du Preez brings with him international experience and a formidable skillset. Though the club hasn’t officially confirmed his next destination, strong indications suggest he will be joining Top 14 side Bordeaux Bègles.

“We understand the reasons for Jean-Luc leaving but we’re all gutted he’s leaving and everybody – not least his brothers – is going to miss him so much.”
