Ireland have made a last-minute change to their lineup for Sunday’s Six Nations clash against Scotland at Murrayfield, with Mack Hansen ruled out due to a hamstring issue.
The Connacht winger had been set to start, but medical staff opted to withdraw him as a precaution, leading to a late reshuffle in the squad.
Hansen, 26, had already been a fitness concern after sustaining a cut to his knee in Ireland’s opening win over England.
Despite recovering in time to retain his place in the squad, muscle tightness in his hamstring has now sidelined him for the crucial fixture.
His absence sees Munster’s Calvin Nash drafted into the starting XV, making his ninth appearance for Ireland. Nash had not initially been included in the matchday squad but now finds himself stepping into a key role on the right wing.
Nash’s inclusion marks a significant opportunity for the 26-year-old, who has impressed at club level with Munster.
Known for his pace and attacking flair, he will now have the task of filling Hansen’s boots in a game that could have major implications for Ireland’s Six Nations title defense.
An official statement from Irish Rugby confirmed the change, stating:
"Mack Hansen has been withdrawn from Sunday’s match day squad as a precaution due to hamstring tightness.
"Calvin Nash will take his place on the right wing and will make his ninth Ireland appearance."
Ireland head into the match looking to build on their 27-22 victory over England in the opening round.
With back-to-back Six Nations titles under their belt, they remain strong contenders for another championship, and a win in Edinburgh would put them in a commanding position.
Scotland, meanwhile, will be eager to end their losing streak against Ireland, having lost their last 10 encounters. With Murrayfield expected to provide a fierce atmosphere, Nash will need to settle in quickly as Ireland aim to maintain their momentum.
