Ireland flanker CJ Stander will be missing the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday after he received a one-match ban following the red card handed to him in the opening game of the series in Cape Town.

Stander was involved in an airborne collision with Springboks fly-half Pat Lambie as a result of which his former South African U20 teammate left the field with concussion and has been ruled out of the second Test.

Stander was handed a red card by the French referee Mathie Reynard in the 22nd minute of the game and after two days of disciplinary hearing, the 26-year-old's two-week ban was reduced to one based on his prior record.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt, who has already declined to name a replacement for Stander will have 48 hours to decide on whether or not an appeal is needed against the ruling.
