Ireland international Ian Madigan is set to make a switch from Bristol Bears to Ulster Rugby after signing a one-year contract with the Pro 14 club starting from 2020/21 season.

Madigan joined Bristol in 2017 and has represented Leinster and Bordeaux in the past. He has featured for the Bears 22 times in the Premiership.

He made his international debut with Ireland in 2013 and has gone on to play for his country 30 times with his last appearance coming during June 2016. He also enjoyed Six Nations title success with Ireland in 2014 and 2015 and also represented them in the 2015 World Cup.

“It’s great news that Ian has chosen to make the move to Ulster for the upcoming season," said Ulster head coach Dan McFarland.

“Given Ian’s skillset, and the fit it can have with our style of play, I’m confident he will be a valuable addition to our squad both on and off the pitch, where he will bring a bank of experience to a group of talented young out-halves.

“I look forward to welcoming him to our province.”
