Ulster Rugby forwards coach Jimmy Duffy will leave the province at the end of the 2025/26 season after an agreement was reached for him to step away from the role for family reasons.
Jimmy Duffy To Leave Ulster At End Of Season
Duffy joined Ulster in the summer of 2024 as part of Richie Murphy’s coaching setup after leaving Western Force. The Galway native arrived with a strong coaching background and quickly became an important figure in Ulster’s forward development.
The province confirmed that his departure was agreed by mutual consent, with Duffy keen to move closer to home and spend more time with family. His exit will come at the conclusion of the current campaign rather than immediately, allowing continuity through the closing weeks of the season.
Richie Murphy And Rory Best Pay Tribute
Head coach Richie Murphy praised Duffy’s impact on the squad, highlighting his contribution to player development and the progress of the forward unit. The pair had previously worked together in the Ireland Under-20 system before reuniting at provincial level.
“Jimmy has been a vital member of the coaching staff since he joined, and he has been important for the progression and development of our players.
“He is an excellent coach with wealth of experience, and I wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
Ulster general manager Rory Best also acknowledged Duffy’s influence, saying the province was disappointed to lose him but understood the personal reasons behind the decision.
“While we are disappointed to lose Jimmy at the end of this campaign, it is ultimately the best choice for him and his family.
“We are in a strong position to have a successful end to the season, and I know that all the coaching staff remain focused on achieving our aims.
“We thank Jimmy for his dedication in the role and wish him well for the future.”
Duffy said his immediate priority is to continue pushing the squad through the rest of the campaign and help deliver a strong finish before leaving in the summer.
“While I’m sad to be leaving Ulster Rugby this summer, this decision was the best thing for me and my family," Duffy said.
“My focus is now on continuing our work, keep pushing on and giving everything to have a strong end to the season.”
