Harlequins have announced the signing of former Wales and British and Irish Lions full-back Leigh Halfpenny for the 2024/25 season.
The 35-year-old joins a Quins side that finished sixth in the Gallagher Premiership last season.
“I’m excited to join Quins and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my career with such an iconic club," he told the club's official website.
"I have always admired the Premiership and I’m keen to grab this opportunity with both hands and contribute to the Quins DNA. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and running out in front of a packed Stoop.”
Halfpenny was recently involved with Crusaders in the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season and has featured for Neath, Cardiff, Toulon and Scarlets.
He played 101 Tests for Wales and was part of the Grand Slam-winning teams of 2012 and 2019 whilst also going to three Rugby World Cups.
Halfpenny also represented the British and Irish Lions on the 2009, 2013 and 2017 tours. He was named the Player of the Series in 2013 against Australia.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Leigh to Quins. His experience speaks for itself, and he will bring plenty of leadership, expertise and high standards to our squad, helping mentor our talented stable of back three players alongside bringing the benefit of his enormous experience to the wider squad," said head coach Danny Wilson.
"He’s an incredible athlete, highly skilful and adaptive across multiple positions. We’re confident he’ll make a strong impact at Quins this season.”
Halfpenny will be joined at Quins by former Wales teammate Wyn Jones. The loosehead prop, with 48 Test caps to his name, will provide injury cover in the front-row.
