Worcester Warriors have secured the signing of lock George Merrick and loosehead prop Marc Thomas ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Merrick started his professional rugby career with Harlequins in 2013 and racked over 100 appearances for the Premiership club. He switched to Clermont Auvergne in 2019 and played in 10 Top 14 games for the French side.

He also was part of the England Under 20 squad that clinched the Six Nations Under 20s Championship in 2012 and also represented them in Junior World Championship the same year.

Meanwhile, Thomas made his debut with Ospreys in 2012 and was part of Jersey Reds, Cardiff Blues and Yorkshire Carnegie and most recently Doncaster Knights that he joined in 2019.

The duo will provide cover to Graham Kitchener and Academy prop Lewis Holsey, who are currently sidelined with stress fracture of the foot and dislocated shoulder respectively.

“Both George and Marc will provide invaluable cover for us in what will be an arduous season,” said Worcester Warriors Director of Rugby Alan Solomons to the official website of the club.

“George is a really big man with heaps of Premiership experience and we are most fortunate to have secured his services.

“Marc is an experienced player and a good scrummager who comes to us after a spell with Harlequins.

“Both lads have fitted in well here at Sixways and I have no doubt that they will make their mark. I look forward to working with them.”
