Garry Ringrose will miss Ireland’s Six Nations match against France after receiving a three-match suspension following his red card in last weekend’s win over Wales in Cardiff.

The Leinster centre was cited for dangerous play under Law 9.13, which prohibits early, late, or dangerous tackles. His ban also extends to Leinster’s United Rugby Championship fixture against Cardiff this weekend.

However, he may return for Ireland’s final Six Nations fixture against Italy on March 15 if he successfully completes World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme.

The 30-year-old was initially shown a yellow card after making head contact with Wales’ Ben Thomas during Ireland’s victory at Principality Stadium.

Following an off-field bunker review, the decision was upgraded to a 20-minute red card, allowing Ireland to later replace Ringrose with Bundee Aki.

Ringrose appeared before an independent disciplinary committee on Thursday morning.

The panel deemed his offense worthy of a mid-range six-week suspension, but his guilty plea and clean disciplinary record resulted in a 50% reduction, bringing it down to three matches.

With Ireland chasing a historic third consecutive Six Nations title, Ringrose’s absence will be a significant blow ahead of their crucial home match against France on March 8.

They will conclude their campaign against Italy in Rome on March 15, where he may be available should he complete the required coaching intervention.

Ireland will now look to adjust their midfield options, with Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw likely to step up as they aim to maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.
