Scarlets scrum-half Gareth Davies has signed a contract extension that will take him into a 19th season with his home club, continuing one of the longest and most distinguished careers in Welsh regional rugby.

Davies made his Scarlets debut in 2009 and has gone on to become one of the defining players of the professional era for the region.

He has now made 281 appearances and scored 77 tries for the club, numbers that underline both his longevity and his consistent influence in games.

Still one of the most dangerous scrum-halves in the URC, Davies has continued to produce big moments this season, including his long-range interception try against Cardiff in December.

Scarlets Great Continues Remarkable Career

On the international stage, Davies won 77 caps for Wales, played in three Rugby World Cups and was part of the Grand Slam-winning side in 2019 as well as the Six Nations title-winning team in 2021.

He also toured twice with the British and Irish Lions, in Australia in 2017 and South Africa in 2021.

Scarlets Keep Experienced Scrum-Half

Davies said he still feels good physically, still loves playing for Scarlets and believes he has a lot more to offer. He also spoke about the importance of the club in his life and his excitement at continuing to be part of a squad that includes a lot of emerging talent.

“I’m really happy to have re-signed. I still feel good physically, I still love playing for this club and I still feel I have a lot to offer.

“This place means a huge amount to me. I’ve spent my whole professional career here, shared some unbelievable memories with team-mates, staff and supporters and I’m excited to be in the heart of it for another season.

“There is a lot of exciting talent coming through the squad and I’m enjoying being part of that environment. The competition is good, the energy is good and there is a real determination within the group to improve and move forward.”
