Experienced forward Freddie Clarke has signed a one-year contract with Newcastle Falcons, marking a significant addition to the club’s pack ahead of the new Gallagher Premiership season.

The 32-year-old joins after a long and successful stint at Gloucester Rugby, where he made nearly 200 appearances over nine seasons. Clarke featured in 23 matches last season for the Cherry and Whites, demonstrating his durability and consistent form.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Clarke is known for his versatility, being comfortable in both the second and back row. His move to Kingston Park brings valuable depth and flexibility to the Falcons’ forward unit.

“I’m excited for a fresh challenge, in a new city with a great group,” Clarke said. “I’m keen to do my talking on the pitch and contribute to what the club is building.”

Newcastle Falcons’ director of rugby, Steve Diamond, welcomed Clarke’s arrival and highlighted his wealth of top-flight experience.

“Anyone who’s watched the Premiership in recent years will know that Freddie’s a quality player,” Diamond said.

“He’s still in great shape physically, he’s capable of covering multiple positions in the pack, and his leadership will add value on and off the field.”
