Four from Four for Wath RUFC

Whilst the 1st XV enjoyed a rest week at Wath upon Dearne RUFC the other teams were holding down the fought with four Wath teams taking to the field and all four carding superb victories.

On Saturday the Development XV travelled away to Huddersfield RUFC and climbed atop of the Yorkshire Merit League Western Championship with an empathic 36-5 win.

Tries for Number 8 Stephen Wesson; the centre pairing of Andy Linton and Robert Booth gave the Moor Road men a strong 26-0 lead going into half time.

Into the second period and although the tries were less frequent, the entertainment factor was still top draw; fly half Adam West finished off a superb team try and the final score was one for the forwards with prop Ben Myers powering over the line.

With the result in the bag Huddersfield did not give up the fight and went over for a deserved consolation try in the dying minutes.

The man of the match award went to young Lock forward Luke Stead in what was a superb effort from the entire squad.

On Sunday it was over to the youngsters, as Wath Under 12s welcomed Matlock to Moor Road for their first home game of the season since their debut against Thorne; the Under 14s travelled to local rivals Doncaster whilst the Under 16s hosted their Doncaster counterparts.

In an exciting game enjoyable for both players and supporters alike Wath U12s overcame a very strong Matlock side to card a 47-33 win – a superb start to their rugby careers for this latest Wath team.

Despite a slow start from Wath Under 14s a strong second half with tries for Alex Anders, Seth Adams and Luke Harrison earned a 21-12 win against an extremely powerful Doncaster outfit.

The oldest junior side at Moor Road treated the large crowd to a scintillating display of rugby as they carded a superb 21-12 victory over Doncaster Under 16s.

The first half was an attritional affair leaving a 0-0 score line going into the break. However, the game really sparked to life in the second half, centre Charlie Higgins powered over following a scything run from lock Jacob Bradder, but the visitors were quick to respond as their huge pack powered over in the corner to level the scores.

It was then that Wath played arguably some of their most exciting rugby to date, the whole team upped their game resulting in two tries, the first for scrum half Reece Tingle following a passage of play that was a delight to see culminating in a break from Casey Taylor before finding Tingle in support to race away.

This was followed by a try that was equally as impressive. Again the whole team played a part before Adam Clark burst through the defensive line and found skipper James Sanderson in support to race over.

The final 15 minutes saw Doncaster look to hit back and Wath forced to defend wave after wave of attack, they held off until five minutes from time when the Doncaster pack again went over for a well worked try.

The final minutes saw Wath not relent, they continued to attack but could not breach the defence this time, a fantastic victory for the youngsters which capped a winning weekend for the Moor Road club.
