Finn Russell has emphasized the importance of a winning mentality as Scotland prepares for the 2025 Six Nations.

The experienced fly-half believes the team must adopt a championship mindset to build on their recent progress and seriously compete for the title.

Scotland has shown significant growth in recent years, securing key victories against top-tier teams. However, Russell insists that potential alone is not enough, and that consistency and a strong mentality will be crucial in turning past promise into silverware.

Russell, a central figure in Scotland's recent campaigns, is clear about the expectations within the squad.

"If we want to win the Six Nations, we have to believe we can. It's about having that mindset from the first game and keeping it throughout the tournament," he stated.

He pointed out that Scotland has been competitive but has yet to string together the performances needed to claim the title. "We’ve had some big wins over the last few years, but we’ve not been able to back them up consistently. That’s the challenge now—to build on what we’ve done and take it further."

Scotland has been closing the gap on the traditional Six Nations powerhouses, and Russell believes the team is now in a position to challenge for top honors. The focus, he says, will be on maintaining high standards in every game and ensuring they deliver under pressure.

"We need to be relentless. We can’t afford to drop our level in any game because in this competition, every match counts. The teams that win are the ones that don’t let their standards slip," he added.
