Scotland's preparations for the upcoming Six Nations have been disrupted with injuries to key players, including captain Sione Tuipulotu and lock Scott Cummings.

These setbacks have forced adjustments to the squad and leadership, just as the tournament approaches.

Captain Tuipulotu has been ruled out of the entire Six Nations after suffering a pectoral muscle tear during training. The injury requires surgery, which will sideline the 27-year-old centre for approximately four months.

This timeline not only impacts his availability for the Six Nations but also casts doubt on his participation in future international fixtures later this year.

Tuipulotu's absence leaves a significant gap in Scotland’s midfield. Known for his leadership and defensive abilities, his injury poses a challenge for the team as they prepare to face tough opponents in the championship.

Adding to the team’s injury concerns, Scott Cummings sustained a fractured forearm in a recent club match. The lock, an integral part of Scotland’s forward pack, will miss the start of the Six Nations.

His injury opens the door for a potential return of Jonny Gray to the starting lineup, offering experience and strength in the second row.

With Tuipulotu unavailable, head coach Gregor Townsend has appointed Finn Russell and Rory Darge as co-captains for the tournament. Both players have prior leadership experience and will aim to guide the team through this challenging period.

Despite the injuries, no additional call-ups have been made to the current 37-man squad. The centre position may be filled by Stafford McDowall, while Cameron Henderson could provide backup in the second row.

Scotland begins their campaign against Italy at Murrayfield, followed by matches against Ireland, England, Wales, and France. Adjusting to these challenges will be crucial if they are to remain competitive in the tournament.
