England will be without scrum-half Alex Mitchell for the remainder of the Six Nations after he sustained a hamstring injury in the defeat to Ireland.

Alex Mitchell Injury Six Nations Setback

Mitchell was forced off after 24 minutes during England’s 42-21 loss to Ireland at Allianz Stadium. Subsequent medical assessments confirmed a hamstring issue that will sideline him for the final two championship fixtures.

He will miss England’s upcoming match against Italy in Rome and the closing round encounter with France. The injury represents a significant disruption as England look to finish the campaign strongly.

“Alex has been scanned and seen the relevant specialists,” said England head coach Steve Borthwick.

“He’ll be out for a number of weeks, unfortunately, so won’t feature in the remainder of this championship.”

Jack van Poortvliet And Raffi Quirke Options

Jack van Poortvliet, who replaced Mitchell against Ireland, is expected to be in contention to start at scrum-half in Rome. Raffi Quirke has been called up to provide additional cover in the position.

Ollie Lawrence Doubt And Squad Changes

Centre Ollie Lawrence is also being monitored after receiving treatment on a knee issue following his return to action against Ireland. His availability for the Italy fixture remains uncertain.

England are at fourth position in the Six Nations table having won a solitary game in three matches.
