England will face an anxious wait over Maro Itoje's availability for the Six Nations 2018 tournament after the Saracens lock suffered a facial injury during the recently concluded Aviva Premiership clash against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop.

Itoje sustained the blow during the 47th minute of the game when he collided with his England team-mate Mike Brown and was forced off the field with blood streaming from his mouth.

The 23-year-old is currently awaiting the scan results and a broken jaw or a cheekbone might put him under serious doubt for England's Six Nations defence that kicks-off with a clash against Italy in Rome on 4th February.

The news did not come at a good time for the European champions Saracens as they suffered their third consecutive defeat in the ongoing Aviva Premiership and will now line-up against the French champions Clermont Auvergne in the home and away fixtures of Champions Cup.
