England duo Joe Cokanasiga and Mark Wilson will be doubtful starters for the World Cup opener against Tonga in Sapporo next Sunday following knee injuries.

Both the players were part of England's final warm-up game against Italy but now will miss the training camp in Miyazaki. Wilson has played 15 Tests in the last two years while Cokanasiga has scored five tries from eight games since his debut in November last year.

England defence coach John Mitchell provided an update on the duo but refused to give a timeline on their return.

"When guys get knocks and niggles they go through a rehab process based on a specific injury," said Mitchell.

Mitchell also wanted England players to guard against complacency when they take on 15th ranked Tonga side.

"The Tongans are a very hard-working people," he added.. "They're obviously very passionate when they do play for Tonga.

"They're representing not only themselves and their family, but also a small island that's produced a lot of very good rugby players.

"It will be a very special occasion for them. It's something that will lift them."
