Edinburgh put on a strong second half display as they managed to beat Newcastle Falcons 8-21 to boost their play-off hopes in the ongoing European Rugby Champions Cup at Kingston Park on Sunday.

The win has taken Edinburgh to top of Pool 5 with 15 points while Newcastle Falcons are at third place with eight points.

Sinoti Sinoti got Newcastle off the mark with a 19th minute try after a terrific work from Simon Hammersley. Toby Flood missed out on the conversion but managed to kick a three-pointer few minutes later after on either side of penalties from Jaco van der Walt as the teams went into the break with a tight 8-6 scoreline.

Edinburgh dominated the proceedings from the outset in the second half when James Johnstone dotted down in the 42nd minute that was improved by Van der Walt. The Edinburgh fly-half also managed to kick a crucial scrum penalty as the lead to increased to eight points for the visitors.

Richard Cockerill's side ensured there is no fairy-tale comeback for the Falcons as Duhan van der Merwe went over the line by the 74th minute to complete a 8-21 victory.
