England coach Eddie Jones has made his intention clear that he will not be leading the British and Lions squad for the 2017 tour of New Zealand.

The British and Lions team will be touring New Zealand in June next year for three Tests against All Blacks and will also take on Provincial Union XV, Maori All Blacks and other Super Rugby sides.

Jones had a phenomenal success with the England team after taking over from Stuart Lancaster following the 2015 World Cup debacle and the red rose team is yet to lose a game under the 56-year-old.

During his tenure, England went on to clinch the Grand Slam for the first time in 13 years in the Six Nations tournament and also registered their maiden Test victory against Australia which saw them climb to the second spot in the World Rugby Rankings.

"I am honoured to be thought of in that area but I have a massive commitment to England and the RFU and I can't afford to spend any time away from the team," he told Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.

"While it might be nice to do it professionally my job is to make England the best in the world and I am going to do that 100 per cent.

"So unfortunately I am unavailable for the Lions. Absolutely no.

"We have improved the team but we want to keep on improving and we will not be happy until we get to number one in the world

"I can't ask for more but we want more. We want to be the best in the world."

With Jones already out of contention, Wales coach Warren Gatland might be the front-runner, though Ireland coach Joe Schmidt and Scotland coach Vern Cotter might also be in the reckoning.
