Newcastle Falcons rugby director Dean Richards has insisted that returning back to Leicester Tigers is not an option for him after the Aviva Premiership club is is on a look out for Richard Cockerill's replacement.

The Welford Road outfit removed rugby director Cockerill after a series of poor performance this season.

Despite, having a successful stint with Leicester Tigers during 1998 and 2004 where he coached them to four Premiership titles and two European Cup final, Richards has made it clear that he has no intention of taking the reins again.

"I have ambitions still myself, am competitive and have that desire to win," Richards told the Daily Telegraph.

"You never lose that instinct, and it has been great to rekindle things here at Newcastle.

"As for Leicester, I've seen what has happened to Richard (Cockerill), and even though he has had longevity in that job, a board gets impatient for success.

"But Leicester is not in my mind at all. I have no interest. I am very happy where I am."

Former England coach Martin Johnson and former Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer are currently tipped to replace Cockerill while interim coach former All Blacks centre Aaron Mauger is also in contention.
