De Villiers Calls For One Final Performance

Springboks captain Jean de Villiers has called for his side to maintain intensity for the full 80 minutes in the 2013 Rugby Championship decider against New Zealand.

As has been well documented, South Africa's failure to pick up a bonus point last week against Australia and New Zealand's success against Argentina means that South Africa must win the game, score four tries and prevent New Zealand from taking a bonus point to win the title.

To do that, de Villiers knows they must play the sort of game they did in the first half against Australia but this time keep it up for the entire match.

"We have to execute what we have been doing. We have to put up a performance like we did maybe for the first twenty minutes like we did last week and we have to put up that performance for 80 minutes," he said.

"The fact of the matter is that it's not a Mickey Mouse team that we're up against, it's the number one ranked team in the world, World Cup winners.

"They also want to win the competition, they also want to win the game, so that makes for a great game."

South Africa are set to make a late decision on whether Jan Serfontein plays at outside centre in place of JJ Engelbrecht and de Villiers believes the 20-year-old is ready to feature in a clash of this magnitude.

"You know he is a quality player and I think Jan showed that even though he's twenty years old, he's ready to play at this level.

"When he came on against New Zealand at Eden Park, I thought he made quite a big difference when he came on and he was keen to get his hands on the ball and had a couple of good runs and definitely didn't stand back for anyone. If he gets his opportunity tomorrow he'll be ready for it."
