The ongoing Super Rugby competition has been disrupted by another Covid surge with two more games in the upcoming round in doubt.

Highlanders have already cancelled their training session on Tuesday due to Covid cases in the squad putting their upcoming clash against Moana Pasifika on Friday in doubt.

If it gets postponed then it would become the fourth encounter involving Moana Pasifika that would be disrupted by Covid in their first five games as their Round 1 and 2 matches, against the Blues and Chiefs respectively will now be played mid week matches.

The fourth round game of Moana Pasifika was also postponed after Hurricanes could not field a matchday squad following a Covid outbreak.

"There were a growing number of Covid cases across players and staff," a Highlanders spokesperson told the Otago Daily Times.

"At this point there has been no decision made on Friday's game," he added.

Meanwhile, Blues, who were also hit by Covid ahead of their fourth round game against Highlanders where a number of players including Beauden Barrett were withdrawn before the game is doubtful about their clash against Crusaders scheduled on 19th March in Christchurch.

"The Blues can confirm that Covid is further impacting our squad," Blues chief executive Andrew Hore said in a statement.

"We are currently working through the full impacts of this situation, including in regards to this week's fixture against the Crusaders.

"Both the Crusaders and New Zealand Rugby are fully aware of the current situation. We are not in a position to add any other details at this stage, but will be able to speak further on developments hopefully by tomorrow."
