Wales international Cory Hill will be heading to Japan next season after signing a contract with Japanese club Yokohama Canon Eagles.

The 29-year-old rejoined Cardiff Blues in 2020 but informed his club about the desire to move overseas in June following which he was removed from Wales squad ahead of the July internationals as he will be ineligible for national selection with the 60-cap rule.

Hill, who had represented Wales in 32 Tests said his desire to play in Japan increased following the experience during the 2019 World Cup.

“I am very excited and grateful to have given the opportunity to be part of the Yokohama Canon Eagles,” he said on his new club’s official Facebook page.

“Playing in Japan was always my dream, but this feeling has become even stronger by the taste of Japanese culture at the Rugby World Cup.

“I’m looking forward to seeing my new team-mates and coaches, and I want to contribute to this wonderful club.”
