Cheetahs have confirmed the signing of South Africa international Frans Steyn ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Steyn started his career with provincial side Sharks in the Currie Cup in 2006 with his Super Rugby debut coming a year later. He had a stint with Racing 92 before rejoining Sharks in 2012.

The 32-year-old also represented Japan's Toshiba Brave Lupus and is currently associated with French side Montpellier which he joined ahead of the 2016/17 season.

“We are delighted to announce that Frans Steyn has signed a 2-year agreement with the Cheetahs, starting on 1 July 2020,” said managing director of Free State Cheetahs Harold Vester.

“Further to the signing of Frans Steyn, the majority of the players will remain with the Cheetahs for the following season".

Steyn made his international debut for South Africa in 2006 and has gone on to play 67 Tests for the Springboks scoring 11 tries. He also became the second South African after Os du Randt to be part of two World Cup triumphs - 2007 and most recently 2019.
