Cardiff Rugby have taken another step in strengthening their future squad by securing a long-term Academy contract with promising second-row Harri Lewis.
The young talent, who has impressed at Pontyclun RFC, will now join the Cardiff Academy setup after completing his current U16s programme.
Lewis has already made a name for himself as a standout player for Pontypridd Schools, playing a crucial role in their Dewar Shield-winning campaign this season.
A Year 10 student at Ysgol Y Pant, he will continue his education at Llandovery College from September, where he will receive specialized rugby and academic support as part of the Cardiff scholar programme.
Academy manager Gruff Rees expressed excitement about Lewis’ potential, highlighting his progress and the support he has received from key figures in his development.
"Harri is someone we have long identified in the pathway as a real talent, and he has really impressed with some great support from Justin Burnell (Pontypridd Schools), Dafydd Davies (Ysgol Y Pant) and Ben Barclay (Pontyclun RFC)," said Rees.
Recognizing that Lewis is still at an early stage of his development, Cardiff Rugby plans to carefully nurture his growth in the coming years, with Llandovery College playing a crucial role in balancing his rugby and academic needs.
Rees also confirmed that Josh Turnbull, a seasoned professional, will serve as Lewis’ mentor, ensuring he receives the guidance needed to thrive.
Llandovery College Warden Dominic Findlay welcomed Lewis, emphasizing the collaborative approach between the college and Cardiff Rugby in developing young talent.
"Harri is an outstanding athlete who has the potential to go a long way in the Welsh game," said Findlay.
