The round eight Boxing Day United Rugby Championship fixture between Munster and Leinster has been postponed due to Covid-19.

The game was scheduled to be played at Thomond Park on Sunday but now will be played at a later date after Leinster have reported positive cases.

Earlier, the Irish province were forced to forfeit their Heineken Champions Cup fixture against Montpellier last weekend due to Covid-19.

Nevertheless, a statement released by the United Rugby Championship revealed that they expect Leinster's round nine game against Ulster to take place as per the schedule.

“The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with the Irish Rugby Football Union and Leinster, who are working with the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) and deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled," read a statement.

“The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule the game.

“At this point there is no impact on Leinster’s R9 fixture with Ulster, scheduled for Saturday, January 1, 2022.”
