Blues registered their fourth consecutive victory as they trounced Lions 43-10 in the seventh round of Super Rugby clash at Eden Park.

An early mistake from Lions in the game allowed Reiko Ioane to capitalise for the opening try in the seventh minute. Even though Dan Kriel responded back with a 16th minute try, Blues seized back the lead with a penalty goal from Otere Black in the 22nd minute.

Around the half-hour mark, Mark Talea raced past a number of Lions defenders to allow Stephen Perofeta to dot down and Black improved it to make it 15-7.

Elton Jantjies with a 35th minute penalty kick reduced the arrears for Lions with a 35th minute penalty goal, Blues had the momentum heading into the break as Ruan Vermaak was sin-binned for failing an intercept and it also resulted in a penalty try for the hosts as they finished the first half with a 22-10 lead.

Blues started the second half in a dominating manner as Reiko (44') and Gerard Cowley-Tuioti (49') both went over the line taking their lead to 26 points. As Lions failed to manage a breakthrough in the second half, Hoskins Sotutu scored the final try in the game in the 63rd minute to complete a 33-point victory.
