Ben McCalman ruled out of third Test against England in Sydney

Australia back-row Ben McCalman has been ruled out of the third and final Test against England in Sydney with a shoulder injury.

McCalman, who made his debut for Australia in 2010 came into action in the final 30 minutes during the Melbourne Test against England last Saturday before injuring himself.

Wallabies confirmed on Tuesday that he has fractured his right scapula and will miss the final Test against Eddie Jones' men, who have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series after their victories in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Michael Cheika has called up Leroy Houston as a replacement for McCalman, who is also expected to be out of action for the remainder of the Super Rugby Season for his club Western Force.

Cheika will also have the option of including Wycliff Palu in the line-up for the Sydney Test for the specialist number-eight position.

The Wallabies head coach hinted that he will be looking to make a couple of changes for the final game as they bid to avoid a series whitewash against England.

“I’ll probably make a couple of changes, I would have always thought I might make a couple each game to have a look at guys who are vying for spots,” Cheika said. “I’m looking more to get better performances out of an individual here, an individual there, or give someone an opportunity perhaps.”
