Munster Rugby and the IRFU have confirmed a new two-year contract extension for hooker Diarmuid Barron, keeping him at the province until the end of the 2027–28 season.
The 27-year-old has become a key figure in the Munster squad, scoring 12 tries in 97 appearances and captaining the province on 13 occasions in competitive matches.
A product of Cashel RFC and Rockwell College, Barron won the Munster Schools Senior Cup with Rockwell in 2015 before joining the Munster Academy in 2018. He made his senior debut later that year away to Cardiff and earned promotion to the senior squad in 2020.
The 2021–22 season proved to be his breakthrough, with Barron making 22 appearances and debuting in the Champions Cup. He followed that up with another strong campaign in 2022–23, playing a key role in Munster’s United Rugby Championship title win.
Barron captained Munster for the first time against Ulster in November 2023 and made 19 appearances last season, further cementing his status as a leader within the squad. He also has featured for Ireland at U20, Emerging Ireland and Ireland A levels.
