Australia's ongoing Rugby Championship campaign have been dealt another blow with number eight Pete Samu ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury during the fourth round clash against Argentina in Gold Coast where he left the field at the start of the second half.

Samu underwent scans on his knee in Canberra that revealed that he will need a rehabilitation period of at least a month.

Australia head coach Michael Cheika had earlier revealed that loose forward Lukhan Tui has requested time-off from the game for the rest of the year to spend time with his family after losing his step father last week and now Samu's absence further has dampened the back-row options of Wallabies.

The game at Cbus Super Stadium also saw Australia lose to Argentina for the first time since 1983 as they languish at the bottom of the Rugby Championship table with a solitary win from four games and will face the Springboks and the Pumas in the final two rounds on 29th September and 6th October respectively.
