Australia outside centre Len Ikitau is set to be on the sidelines for a lengthy period following a shoulder injury.

The 24-year-old fractured scapula in his shoulder in the sixth minute of Australia's second round Rugby Championship clash against Argentina when fullback Emiliano Boffelli dived into him as he scored a try.

Ikitau, who has played 28 Tests for the Wallabies underwent a scan following the game which confirmed the fracture and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks effectively ruling him out of the remainder of Rugby Championship and the World Cup warm-up game against France.

Meanwhile, Queensland Reds centre Samu Kerevi expressed regret over the lost of Ikitau but expressed confidence about finding a suitable replacement.

"We prepared for different scenarios. That was the last one on my list, having Lenny out," Kerevi said.

"Defensively, he's one of the best in the world that I've played with. He's been great there. Even his voice out there."

Australia currently are languishing at the bottom of the table after having lost their matches to South Africa ad Argentina.
