Edinburgh centre Andries Strauss has expressed his desire to help his team secure a Champions Cup slot before bidding farewell to the Murrayfield outfit.

Alan Solomons' side is presently positioned eighth on the Guinness Pro12 table but can still secure a spot in next year's main European championship if things go as planned this weekend.

The least complicated way for Edinburgh is to beat Cardiff Blues at home whereas sixth-placed Munster and seventh-placed Ospreys are defeated by Scarlets and Ulster respectively.

Although a long shot, the former South African rugby union player is still hopeful of his team's chances.

Strauss' whose contract was not renewed by Edinburgh after a two-year stint, will earn his 50th cap against the Blues.

The 32-year-old expressed his gratitude to his teammates and thanked everyone involved for the wonderful memories.

"It's been a huge honour and privilege to play for Edinburgh Rugby over the last couple of years and to play my 50th game in what would be my last is extremely special and certainly something I'll remember for a long time.

"I'm grateful for every second I was allowed on the field and will cherish the memories I made with the team.

"This weekend is a vital game for us and one that could determine the success of our entire season.

"Cardiff have been playing some good rugby lately and they have improved as the season progressed. It will take a massive team effort from us to get the right result on the weekend.

"They are a very good attacking side and will test our resolve and willingness to work hard for each other, therefore it's absolutely crucial that we stick to our systems."

Dougie Fife, who is also exiting the club after this season will feature in the back division in place of Blair Kinghorn.

Scotland center Matt Scott will also make his final appearance ahead of his switch to Gloucester this summer.

The other three changes made to the squad by Solomons comprise of flankers Nasi Manu and Hamish Watson returning back to the squad, whereas, Rory Sutherland replacing injured Alasdair Dickinson in the front row.
