Scotland’s Six Nations campaign has been dealt a significant blow with the news that fly-half Adam Hastings is set to miss the tournament after sustaining a fractured jaw.
The Glasgow Warriors star underwent surgery over the weekend following an injury during last Friday’s United Rugby Championship win over Scarlets.
The 28-year-old suffered the injury late in the first half after a powerful collision with Scarlets No. 8 Vaea Fifita.
The fly-half required extensive medical attention before walking off the field and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Following surgery to repair the facial fracture, Hastings has begun his recovery process at home.
Glasgow Warriors defence coach Pete Murchie confirmed that Hastings would be sidelined for “months rather than weeks.”
This marks another unfortunate setback for the player, whose time at Gloucester was plagued by injuries before his return to Glasgow in the summer.
Hastings had made a strong start to the season with Glasgow, earning a recall to the Scotland squad and starting in Tests against Fiji and Portugal.
He was poised to play a crucial role as backup to Finn Russell in Gregor Townsend’s Six Nations strategy. However, this injury not only rules him out of the tournament but also Glasgow’s Champions Cup pool matches and the 1872 Cup derbies against Edinburgh.
Speaking about the injury, Murchie expressed the team’s support for Hastings: “It’s a long recovery process, so we wish Adam all the best. He’s a bit sore, but the operation went well.
"He’s had some bad luck over the past couple of years, but he knows how to recover, and we’re confident he’ll be back stronger.”
