Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson has expressed his desire to sign Fiji Sevens player Jarryd Hayne.

The code hopper departed from the National Rugby League club Parramatta to chase a dream to play in the National Football League (NFL) where he succeeded to feature in a few games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015-2016.

The former NFL star is presently hunting for a place with the Fijian sevens rugby squad for the upcoming Rio Olympics.

Hayne, who failed to make an impact as he played in the final leg of their successful World Series title defence in May, has returned back home or treatment on a hip injury.

Gibson, who is currently in Tokyo for his side's Super Rugby clash against the Sunwolves, revealed his interest in signing Hayne depending on the outcome of the financial possibility.

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has successfully managed to lure several players across from rugby league by offering them lucrative deals and a Super Rugby franchise of their choice.

“He’s a talented player and we’d be interested, everything is depending on our salary cap of course."

"Most of the top 20 or 30 players – I don't know the absolute numbers – but certainly the players are topped up to some degree so 100 per cent [a Super Rugby club could afford him]," added Gibson.

"His commercial value … I'm sure the ARU would be keen to maximise that and get the best players playing our code."
