Wallabies prop Isaac Kailea has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain with Rugby Australia and the New South Wales Waratahs through the end of 2027.
The new deal confirms Kailea’s long-term future in Australian rugby, as the national team builds toward the next Rugby World Cup on home soil.
A powerful front-rower standing at 190cm and weighing 129kg, Isaac Kailea made his Test debut in 2024 against Wales in Sydney, earning Wallaby cap number 975.
Originally a back-row player, Kailea transitioned to loosehead prop in 2018. His adaptability and athleticism quickly paid off as he debuted for the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby less than three years later.
Born and developed in Victoria’s rugby system, Kailea emerged through the Harlequin junior ranks and went on to play 22 matches for the Rebels before transferring to the Waratahs at the end of 2024. His rapid progression and technical strength have made him one of the country's most promising front-row talents.
Kailea’s new deal adds further depth to the Waratahs' already formidable front row, which includes international props Angus Bell and Taniela Tupou. His presence brings valuable experience and versatility to the squad as they aim for success in future Super Rugby campaigns.
Reflecting on his contract extension, Kailea said: “I'm happy to be able to have my immediate future sorted and to have some stability so I can focus on my rugby here.”
He also reaffirmed his ambitions to contribute meaningfully to the Waratahs and push for more opportunities with the Wallabies.
Kailea joins a growing list of Test players to recommit to Australian rugby in recent weeks, including Fraser McReight, Matt Faessler, Nick Frost, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Harry Wilson, and Jeremy Williams. These extensions signal a strong intent by Rugby Australia to secure top talent ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
