Welsh wing Mason Grady has been ruled out for the next two months following an ankle injury sustained in Wales' defeat to Fiji.

Scans on Monday confirmed the need for surgery, ending Grady’s participation in the remainder of the Autumn Nations Series and casting doubt over his availability for Cardiff’s upcoming Welsh derbies and initial Challenge Cup matches.

The loss of Grady adds another layer of complexity for Wales coach Warren Gatland as he prepares his squad to face Australia on Sunday.

Despite Grady’s absence, Gatland has yet to bring in a replacement, signaling confidence in his current squad to adapt ahead of their next game.

Grady’s injury occurred just 17 minutes into the match against Fiji, forcing an early reshuffle. Initially, Sam Costelow came on to fill the void, but there was a brief communication breakdown as Ellis Bevan was meant to replace Grady.

Gatland has reportedly requested a review of the mix-up to ensure clarity in future substitutions.

With the prospect of an 11th consecutive defeat looming, Gatland is under pressure to recalibrate his side for their encounter with Australia.

The coach faces the challenge of adjusting his strategy without Grady, who has been a key player in Wales' wing position.
