South Africa Rugby said that it would be too early to make a call on skipper Siya Kolisi's availability for the upcoming Rugby World Cup to be played in France later this year.

Kolisi sustained the injury while playing for Sharks in the United Rugby Championship clash against Munster on 22nd April and has been sidelined since then.

A statement released by SA Rugby revealed that the 31-year-old underwent a surgery last Friday and team doctor Jerome Mampane will monitor his rehabilitation.

When asked about a timeframe on Kolisi's return, Dr Mampane said: "t was too early to make any reliable forecasts on when Kolisi may be able to return to play".

Meanwhile, Springboks head coach Jacques Nienaber is confident that Kolisi will do everything possible to try being fit for the World Cup.

"We wish Siya well during his recovery and we know that he will do everything possible to return to play as soon as possible," he said.

South Africa are grouped in Pool B along with Ireland, Scotland, Tonga and Romania.
