Tonga international Sona Taumalolo retires on medical ground

Grenoble have confirmed that Tonga international Sona Taumalolo has retired with immediate effect on medical grounds.

The French club confirmed that a medical examination conducted on the 36-year-old revealed serious spinal injury and has decided to quit the game after taking a second medical opinion.

Taumalolo has been part of Grenoble since 2015 and helped the club to gain promotion to the Top 14 for the upcoming 2018/19 season. He has also represented Chiefs, Perpignan and Racing 92 before joining Grenoble.

His Test debut for Tonga came in 2011 and has featured in 20 games with his last appearance for the national side coming during the 2015 World Cup.
