Tom Prydie Interview

Talking Rugby Union caught up with Wales & Ospreys hotshot Tom Prydie

1.How do you think Ospreys doing this year?

I think the teams doing well this season, with winning the magners league last year it was always our aim to win it 2 years running and we are in a strong position to do so. Over the last few months with the internationals being away it's shown great strength in depth of the squad, which can only benefit the Ospreys.

2. Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully being a regular starter for the Ospreys and in the welsh squad.

3. Have you any career highlights so far?

It would have to be getting my First international cap against Italy and getting my First try against South Africa.

4. Who was your rugby hero growing up and have you got any heroes who are still playing?

Im lucky enough to be playing and training with some of them at the Ospreys in players like Shane Williams, James hook and Lee Byrne. I always loved watching Shane play as a kid as you never knew what he would do next.

5. What career would you be in if you hadn't became a rugby player?

I'd liked too have said Golf, but I don't think I would ever of become professional in that!

6. How does it feel coming out the end of a youth academy, has Ospreys taught you alot?

Defiantly! I think the Academy systems in all the regions not just ospreys are showing they work as more and more young players these days are breaking through into their regions. They prepare you not just physically but make the transition from age-grade to seniors a lot easier, allowing it not to feel like such a shock.

7. Have you any close friends within rugby?

All the guys in the ospreys are great guys and easy to get along with but I have played with Matthew Morgan since I was 10 and still playing with him today. Mike Phillips is a good guy and gives me advice if I need it too.

8. If any player could join Ospreys who would it be?

I think Sonny Bill Williams would be a great player to play along side.

9. What is it like playing in the same squad as Shane Williams, Tommy Bowe, Lee Byrne, James Hook, Nikki Walker etc have you learnt a lot from them?

Yeah its great being involved in a team with world-class players such as the ones named above. You learn a lot from being around them every day and if you need any help or advice they are all approachable and help you which is good as a young player coming into the squad. Also if you do get the jersey it makes it that much better because you know who you will be taking it off!

10. How is the injury when do you think you'll be back?

Yeah injury's ok. I have had the Operation now and just taking it easy for a few weeks. I'm not 100% when ill be back because everyone's different but I am aiming for the begging part of the season.

11. Do you get time to watch any other Rugby Union leagues such as aviva premiership or super rugby?

I watched the Game in Twickenham between The crusaders and the sharks today and it was a great game to watch. I think there was over 60 points scored!! The speed of the game just seemed a different level.

12. How was the feeling making you debut for Wales and also scoring a try for Wales?

The feeling was indescribable. It was by far the best feeling I have had in my life to date.

13. What tips would you give to youngsters trying to make it in the rugby game?

Just focus on what you want to achieve. Nothing comes easy, just keep training and training.

14. You have been tipped to be a world class player in years to come, how does it feel having professionals say this about you?

Yeah it's a great feeling when players say things about you like that because there opinion means a lot to me. I try not to get too carried away with it though as I haven't done too much yet and hopefully I will have a long career to come!
