Former England fly-half Toby Flood is considering an option to move to Germany with his career with the red rose team looks all but over.

Flood, who represented England 60 times between 2006 and 2014 played for Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers before deciding to move to France three years back to represent Top 14 club Toulouse - a move that has kept him out of contention to represent England.

Even though, the 32-year-old has returned back to the Falcons ahead of the 2017/18 season, with George Ford and Owen Farrell being the frontline choices, it is unlikely that Flood will get another opportunity to be part of the England set up.

"If there was any way of trying to help a fledgling rugby country, it would interest me," said Flood, who had applied for a German passport in the wake of the Brexit vote

"I have always been proud of being German.

"It would be nice to go back and connect it all together.

"My mum is the last remaining true Lieven and she went back to Germany about 10 years ago to put together the family tree, so if there was a chance to connect into that it would be great."
