Titans bring in scrum half Zylon McGaffin

Rotherham Titans are delighted to announce Zylon McGaffin has agreed terms to join the club ahead of the 2014/15 Greene King IPA Championship season.
Twenty three years-old McGaffin joins the Clifton Lane based side from National Two North side Darlington Mowden Park, where he has been in outstanding form since his return from home in South Africa.

McGaffin has represented North South Africa u/18s and been involved with Blue Bulls A-League, Blue Bulls u/19 Currie Cup Squad and Pretoria Harlequins. Zylon originates from a small farming community called Tzaneen, which is in the Limpopo Province in the North of South Africa.
Zylon is a bright boy having studied a degree in BSc Environmental Management Sciences, majoring in Botany and he's currently studying a course in Financial Management.

Commenting on his imminent arrival at the Titans Zylon revealed, "I have genuinely loved my time at Mowden, it's a fantastic set-up. The club really is a community and it is certainly going places. The style of rugby that Mowden play and the coaching set up have provided me with the opportunity to take the next step in my career with Rotherham."

"I am very excited to join the Rotherham Titans community and believe it has capability of developing me as a person and a player. I'm thrilled, as Rotherham prides itself on a fast paced game of rugby and hopefully I can contribute in implementing that."

"Championship rugby has always been a goal of mine and I'm delighted to be representing Rotherham which is a very competitive outfit in the Championship. I look forward to contributing to the club for the next season in which ever way is needed.”

Darlington Mowden Park Director of Rugby John Newton said ''I'm very pleased for Zylon and his opportunity with Rotherham. As a club we have been building links with various premiership and championship clubs that allow players to develop with us and then take the next steps. Player development is a huge part of our ethos and the way that we want to grow the club. We have been in close talks with Rotherham to form what will be a great link and we wish Zylon every success with his career going forward''

Equally thrilled with the clubs latest signing, head coach Lee Blackett explained, "Zylon is a guy who we've been tracking for the last two years; we knew about him last year, but he picked up an injury towards the back end of last season and then went home to South Africa. He didn't return until Christmas, but he's back now and he's playing exceptionally well at Darlington Mowden Park. I believe he's got the X-Factor about him; he's a small aggressive scrum half that will take the gain line on and he'll ask questions of the defence in and around the ruck."

"Zylon will add massive competition for the nine shirt with Dan White. It's another one of those scenarios of trying to find the right guys from the lower leagues and in Zylon we believe we have achieved that. Dan White came to us from Hull last year and he's done really well for us and there's very little to choose between him and Charlie Mulchrone. We expect Zylon to do exactly the same.”
