Spain’s head coach, Juan González Marruecos, has confirmed the 32-player squad for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England.
Spain, ranked 13th in the world, will begin their Pool C campaign against New Zealand on August 24, followed by matches against Ireland and Japan.
Prop Laura Delgado, currently with Harlequins, will captain the team. She is among the few World Cup veterans, joined by Lourdes Alameda, Mónica Castelo, and Anne Fernández de Corres, who have previously represented Spain in earlier tournaments.
For the majority of players, this will mark their first appearance on rugby’s biggest stage. Rising talents such as Claudia Peña Hidalgo, Ana Peralta, Zahía Pérez, Alba Capell, and Amalia Argudo are set to make their debuts, adding youthful energy to the side.
Delgado expressed her pride in leading the team: “Playing in a World Cup is a privilege only a few experience in their lives.
"We’ve worked for eight years to reach this point, and we won’t let our fans down.”
She also emphasised the importance of inspiring future generations:
“We want more girls to join the Leonas pride and believe in themselves both on and off the pitch.”
The squad is made up of 19 forwards and 13 backs, blending seasoned players with promising newcomers.
