New Zealand and South Africa are set to lock horns with each other at Twickenham Stadium leading towards the Rugby World Cup next year according to a report.

The Daily Mail newspaper reported that the game could be amongst the warm-up fixtures ahead of the showpiece event in France with England set to face another top tier nation.

The fixture could also be a part of Rugby Championship as Argentina faced the Wallabies at Twickenham during the 2016 edition.

“Sources have indicated that Eddie Jones’ national team will be involved in a box-office double-header at Twickenham, which will also involve the two leading southern superpowers (South Africa and New Zealand) going head-to-head," read the report from the Daily Mail.

"Whether the fixture would constitute part of an abbreviated Rugby Championship or a one-off ‘friendly’ is unclear.

"What is clear is that it would fill the stadium in south-west London to its 82,000 capacity and generate considerable revenue for the respective unions, at a time when they are recovering from the impact of the Covid pandemic."
