New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson has named flanker Simon Parker in the All Blacks squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship, marking the only uncapped player in the main lineup.
The All Blacks begin their campaign with two back-to-back matches against Argentina, starting August 16 in Córdoba.
Parker, who plays for the Waikato Chiefs, impressed during the recent Super Rugby season and has been selected for his versatility and physical presence.
Robertson praised the 23-year-old’s development, saying, “Simon had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality.
"He can play blindside or No.8 and has already gained experience with several New Zealand representative teams. We believe he’s ready for this level.”
In addition to Parker, three more uncapped players have been named as injury cover: prop Tevita Mafileo, scrum-half Kyle Preston, and utility back Leroy Carter.
Several key players, including Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Cam Roigard, Noah Hotham, and Caleb Clarke, have been ruled out of the tour due to injury.
Robertson acknowledged the setbacks but emphasized the new opportunities created as a result.
“We are disappointed for our men who are currently recovering, but this also opens doors for others who’ve performed consistently and deserve a chance.”
The All Blacks will also see the return of Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi from injury, with Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie, and Josh Lord also rejoining the squad ahead of the opening Test.
