Sharks centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg has been handed a four-week ban following his red card incident in the recently concluded United Rugby Championship game against Leinster.

The Springboks international was sent-off in the 74th minute of the game for a high tackle on Ross Byrne as his side went on to lose the encounter 34-54.

“Rohan Janse van Rensburg was suspended for four games,” said Sharks head coach Sean Everitt.

“Rohan has done really well since he has been at the Sharks. It has almost rejuvenated his career and Saturday reminded me of the games he played so well for the Lions,” the coach added.

“Losing a Springbok does disrupt us somewhat, but it is something you have to deal with in rugby because there are always injuries as well.

“I am just so excited for a guy like Marnus Potgieter who is getting an opportunity to start in the No 13 jersey.

“I’ve known Marnus for a long period of time and I have been watching him from school. When he was at the Bulls he didn’t get a lot of opportunities at centre.

“He is now getting an opportunity in the position that he has grown up with and playing in, so it’s an exciting opportunity for him.”

Sharks are positioned eighth in the United Rugby Championship table with two wins from three games.
