Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann has played down the reports circulating about more South African sides linking up with Europe based Pro 14 tournament.

Cheetahs and Kings already shifted from Super Rugby to Pro 14 at the start of the 2017/18 season. Even though Kings endured a tournament where they won just one out of the 21 games, Kings progressed to semi-finals where they were defeated by Scarlets.

Reacting to media reports Sharks are going to be joining the Pro 14 competition next season, Teichmann insisted that the Durban based unit is pleased to continue where they are.

"We enjoy having New Zealand teams here in Durban, there’s always a good rivalry between South African sides and New Zealand sides. Let’s keep that going."

Earlier, SANZAAR also denied the news about Sharks leaving Super Rugby for Pro 14.

Sharks are currently positioned third in South African Conference of the ongoing Super Rugby season with four wins from 10 games and will head to Loftus Versfeld on 12th May to face Bulls.
