Saracens flanker Nathan Michelow has been suspended for four matches after receiving the Premiership’s first-ever 20-minute red card in the win against Newcastle.
The 21-year-old was dismissed just two minutes into the game for a tip tackle on Newcastle prop George McGuigan. Under the new rule, Saracens were allowed to replace him after 20 minutes, and they went on to claim a 39-17 victory.
Michelow denied the charge of lifting and dangerously dropping or driving an opponent at an independent panel hearing on 1 October. While the panel upheld the offence, it accepted there was no deliberate intent to foul.
The ban includes Saracens’ win over Bristol and will see him miss upcoming Premiership fixtures against Harlequins on 12 October, Sale on 18 October, and Northampton on 24 October. He will next be available for selection when Saracens face Bath on 30 November, following the international break.
Michelow has made 30 appearances for Saracens.
