SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos believes Super Rugby could be played simultaneously with the Rugby Championship in August to minimize the damage caused by the pandemic coronavirus.

The Super Rugby 2020 tournament is currently on a suspension and usually is scheduled to run until the end of June with the Rugby Championship set to kick-off in August.

Marinos reckons the damage caused by the impact of the COVID-19 can be reduced to some extent if the Super Rugby competition runs in conjunction with the Southern Hemisphere international competition.

“Could you be playing the Rugby Championship at the same time as a domestic competition?” Marinos told Newshub on Tuesday.

“It’s not trying to rubbish one for the other, it’s how do we get a sensible solution in what may be a restricted time frame?”

However, Marinos is also wary of the challenges ahead with travel restrictions imposed in various countries. Despite that he said the board is determined to complete the season which would provide some relief to the financially hit clubs.

“We are hell bent and have every intention of delivering the complete package,” he added.
