Rugby World Cup 2019 - Odds and Predictions

Four years have passed since the last RWC, and the fans are getting more excited by the minute.

With just a few days until the opening ceremony, the most enthusiastic rugby fans and betting aficionados are anxious for the games to start.

The tournament will take place in Japan, and it is set to begin on September 20 and scheduled to end on November 2. However, while you do have to wait a few days before the first games, sportsbooks have already prepared the odds for those who are looking to place a bet or two.

So let’s take a look at what the sportsbooks have to say and see who is favoured to take the Webb Ellis Cup home.

Pool A

In Pool A, we have Ireland, Scotland, Russia, Samoa, and the cup’s host, Japan. Two of the strongest teams in this group are undoubtedly Ireland and Scotland. While Scotland has quite a few more favoured teams ahead of them, their odds of winning the tournament are 50/1.

A lot of attention is focused on Rory Hutchinson since the Scotts are expecting a great deal from him. When it comes to Ireland, with the odds of 8/1, 7/1, and 9/1 in various sportsbooks, they are at the top of the list of potential winners, which means they are a team to watch out for.

Only the first two teams will advance to the quarterfinals, but the first three from each group get to automatically qualify for the next Rugby World Cup. Moreover, with Japan being the host of the tournament, their pride is on the line, which means we’ll have a fierce battle in Pool A.

Pool B

In Pool B, there are New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Namibia, and Canada, meaning that things look a lot clearer than in Pool A. Undoubtedly, every reputable sports betting website is considering the three-time champion New Zealand as well as the two-time champion South Africa as potential candidates to win the World Cup.

As a matter of fact, New Zealand is the biggest favourite according to many sportsbooks. The current reigning champion has the odds of 11/8 in Betfair, while sportsbooks like William Hill, Marathon, SkyBet, and 888sport give the All Blacks the 5/4 odds of winning the tournament. Interestingly enough, the next two teams favoured to win the 2019 RWC are South Africa and England, both of them with the odds of 9/2 in all reputable sportsbooks.

Pool C

Speaking of England, they’re in Pool C together with France, Argentina, the USA, and Tonga. Sportsbooks aren’t favouring Tonga and the USA, but they’re predicting a close and fierce battle for the second and third place in the group stage between Argentina and France.

Argentina’s odds vary from 28/1 to 50/1, while France’s odds start at 25/1 and go as high as 40/1 in RedZone. While these are the odds for winning the whole RWC, they’re an excellent indicator of what to expect in Pool C.

Pool D

Finally, in Pool D we have Australia, Wales, Georgia, Fiji, and Uruguay. Sportsbooks are predicting the Wallabies and Wales will dominate the competition, giving the Australians 12/1 and the Welsh 9/1 chances to take it all. However, while many are already predicting that these two will be the ones to advance through the group stage, we are looking forward to the battle for the third place in Pool D.
