Rebels 40-13 Sunwolves, AAMI Park
Scorecard

Rebels inched closer to top placed Waratahs following a 40-13 victory over Sunwolves in their Super Rugby encounter at AAMI Park on Friday.

Rebels now have 30 points from 12 games as they are second in Australian Conference while Sunwolves are at bottom in the same group.

The Sunwolves had a promising start to the game when Jason Emery offloaded to Lomano Lemeki in the third minute and Hayden Parker slotted the conversion to make it 0-7.

The response from Rebels came two minutes later when Marika Koroibete grabbed a pass from Billy Meakes to score their first try in the game and a conversion from Reece Hodge helped Rebels level the scores 7-7.

The home side dominated the remaining proceedings in the first quarter with back to back tries from Jack Maddocks (17') and Amanaki Mafi (20') and Hodge managed to slot the extras on both the occasions to take them to a 14 point lead.

As the half time was approaching Parker kicked two penalties that provided some relief to the Japanese side as they reduced the gap to 21-13 heading to break.

Maddocks helped Rebels up the ante further with his second that came in the 48th minute and their momentum was helped when Hosea Saumaki was sin-binned for a cynical defensive foul close to his try-line in the 62nd minute.

Rebels made full use of the numerical advantage as Koroibete scored two more tries in the 68th and 71st minute to seal a 40-13 victory for the Australian side.
