Former England skipper Phil de Glanville will be the latest addition to the Rugby Football Union Council.

The 48-year-old has featured for England in 38 Tests between 1992 and 1999 and has scored eight tries in it.

The former centre captained England in 1996 replacing Will Carling but lost it when Sir Clive Woodward took over as the coach in the following year.

His club debut came in 1989 for Bath Rugby and also captained them to a league and cup double in 1996. He has played 189 matches for the Aviva Premiership club in which he scored 53 tries.

De Glanville, who will be council's student RFU representative is delighted with the new role.

"I am delighted to be joining the RFU Council.

"Rugby has been a significant part of my life, both personally and professionally, for over 25 years, and I am hopeful that I will be able to share that experience for the benefit of others, particularly in the university sector."
